Who sets the value

The Hamilton County Assessor of Property sets the appraised value of every Chattanooga property. The city does not appraise property. If the value is too high, the tax is too high, and you can ask the Assessor to review it.

Chattanooga has a tax freeze for the city tax, for owners age 65 or older with a 2025 income of $63,470or less. Hamilton County has not adopted a freeze for the county tax. The state’s tax relief program covers both bills.

Hamilton County property tax has the Assessor’s office, how to ask for a review, the tax relief programs and the reappraisal years.
